As we walk down Nathan Road and turn left into Kansu Street, there is a small set of steps embedded in the façade of steel shutters. Framing the steps is an alcove, which forms into a rectangular cut through the dense building block of windows overlayed with calligraphic signage, projecting air conditioning units and a network of cables. Moving through this corridor towards an impending corner presents an uncertainty that is both lived and imagined. The light is dimmed, and a series of video monitors and CCTV cameras reinforce an emptiness that is guarded.
